Local Treasures - Rochester Public Market

While many Rochestarians are Public Market veterans, I’m always surprised at the amount of people who have lived here for years and have never been. If you’re not familiar, the Rochester Public Market is truly a treasure.  It’s open Saturdays from 5am to 3pm year round.  You can get fresh, local produce, meat, cheese, baked goods, and much more.  And the best part is, you can save money doing it.

Why You Should Go There Now!

I truly believe this is the best time of year to visit the market.  Why, you ask?  Because there is such an unbelievable selection of produce.  You can find so many kinds of fruits and vegetables. Just to list a few items, today we found different kinds of squash, peaches, apples & cider, carrots, grapes, lettuce, and many yummy fall baked goods.

What About Saving Cash?

Like I said, the market is not just good for getting great produce, you can also save cash.  Here’s a few of the items that we saved money on this week:

Acorn Squash

Public Market: Bought a squash that was just over 2lbs for $.75.  This works out to $.375/lb

Wegmans: $.99/lb

Savings: $.69/lb!

Concord Grapes

Public Market: Bought an overflowing quart for $3

Wegmans: $3.99/quart

Savings: $.99+/quart

I plan to make this a monthly post so readers can get an idea of what the public market has for sale as the seasons change.  Feel free to post your public bargains as well!

Also if anyone has ideas for Rochester local treasures that you feel like I should review, let me know!  Keep in mind, I'm looking to shop locally and save cash!
