Nathan’s Soup and Salad on Park Ave

So this is my new favorite place for lunch take-out.  Nathan’s reminds me of the Soup Nazi episode from Seinfeld except with really nice servers.  (Be prepared to take your soups home with you because there is no seating at Nathan’s.  I believe in the summer they do have a few tables outside in front of the restaurant.)

Brunch at Jay's Diner

Looking for a good place for breakfast/brunch?  Try Jay’s Diner at 2612 West Henriettta Road.  It’s open 24 hours a day just in case you need a snack around 2am.

We went for brunch on Sunday -- we were looking for a place that serves breakfast all day.  Our waitress was extremely friendly and attentive (and she told me I smelled nice….must have been my new shampoo!)  The kitchen was a little slow but the place was pretty packed and the wait wasn’t anywhere near outrageous.

I got a spinach and feta omelette and it was light and fluffy and had the spinach cooked right into the egg mixture.  I wish I knew how to make an omelette like that.  Also, it was huge and served with hash browns and toast.  Tasty!  My friend had the French toast with sausage and by the way he housed it, I have to say he enjoyed it immensely.

Prices were reasonable.  It was only around $15 for two meals and two coffees.  If you’re a student, flashing your student ID will get you 10% off your bill.  They also have free wireless if you need to stay connected.

Some of my lunch group’s favorite entrees are the Sesame Chicken:

Shopping at Price-Rite: An Experiment

The Price-Rite grocery chain is relatively new to Rochester.  In the last couple of years, three locations have opened in the Rochester area – 375 Driving Park Ave, 1230 University Ave, and 3333 W Henrietta Road.  I’m a little embarrassed to say that I’ve never shopped there, but to open three stores in such a little time frame, they must be doing something right!

I decided it was high time to check it out!  So I started out to answer a couple of questions:

What is the overall experience shopping at PriceRite?

And more importantly, can you save money at PriceRite?

Local Treasures – The Distillery

Last night my boyfriend and I stopped at our local Distillery to take advantage of Local Restaurant Week – we had a good time and found a ton of great deals.

First let me tell you a little about the Distillery for those who haven't been.  There are actually three locations in the Rochester area -- one in Greece (which I’ve never been to), one on Mt Hope Ave, and one on Winton Road South.  The Distillery is basically a local sports bar with pretty great food.  It’s the perfect place for a drink and snacks after work or to bring the family to watch the game on Sunday.  They have a huge menu and daily specials – really something for everyone. Local Treasures - Rochester Public Market

While many Rochestarians are Public Market veterans, I’m always surprised at the amount of people who have lived here for years and have never been. If you’re not familiar, the Rochester Public Market is truly a treasure.  It’s open Saturdays from 5am to 3pm year round.  You can get fresh, local produce, meat, cheese, baked goods, and much more.  And the best part is, you can save money doing it.    More...
